The HIFI Club

This isn't a funeral. It's a celebration.

When we started Hai Karate in 1999 it was a novel idea to play all different styles of music we loved in a dj set. Genres were more well defined in dj music at that time and we were determined to go against these rules. Our favourite records were funk, breaks, house, hip hop and rock and we wanted to be able to do it all. It sounds standard now but at the time it truly wasn't.

Luckily Calgary club kids were ready for a change as well, and over the years the night has had countless memorable nights- but mostly great times that are hard to remember. We want to say thanks to the guest djs and artists who have played, the staff and family at Hifi Club & The Night Gallery who made it happen, and most of all the people of Calgary for supporting it for so long. We've made so many lifelong friends over the years at Hai Karate it's impossible to fathom. Without Hai Karate there would be no Smalltown Djs, no Giant 45, no Hifi Club, no Commonwealth Bar & Stage and no Home & Away.

Going forward we're thrilled to be passing the torch on Thursdays to one of the most exciting up-and-coming crews in town. Stay tuned for details.

Thank you.
